EAST SMETHPORT, Pa. Robbie Blair was
unstoppable Saturday night at McKean County Raceway. The veteran racer
from Centerville, Pa., made a clean sweep in his FASTRAK Northeast Late
Model Touring Series debut by setting fast time, winning his heat race
and capturing the feature win for a $5,000 payday.
Defending track champion John Lacki and series regular Dan Angelicchio
led the 24-car field to green. Lacki got the quick jump on Angelicchio
with Jim Frank in tow followed by hometown favorite and new series
regular Steve Dixon.
Blair would move into fourth on lap two before the yellow lights came
one for an accident involving defending Series champion David Scott,
Justin Tatlow, Kyle Lukon and Dan Karalagas. Angelicchio would get the
jump on Lacki on the restart as Blair was now in third with Jim Frank
sliding back to fourth.
The yellow lights came back on lap six for Matt Cobb and Kyle Zimmerman.
Angelicchio led the field back to green with Mike Pegher, Jr. moving
into the top five and up to second on lap seven, but only to see Blair
come back and take the runner up spot back on lap eight.
After challenging Angelicchio, Blair finally made the winning move on
lap 15. Lacki then dropped Angelicchio back to third on 21 with Pegher
up to fourth. With 13 laps remaining, Lacki challenged Blair for the
lead, but the duo made contact as Lacki spun and collected Pegher and
Damian Bidwell machines.
Blair led the rest of the way to become the 19th different Northeast
Touring Series winner in 38 races all-time. Angelicchio turned in his
season best effort in second and earned $2,500. Dixon brought home the
third-place finish. Series point leader Max Blair was fourth with Kyle
Zimmerman advancing from the tail of the field to finish fifth for his
first career top five in FASTRAK touring series competition.
